Busy Beaver

Vocals are basically complete for It Still Hurts. Maybe I'll take a trip down to Calgary to record Glen playing guitar on it, since he wrote the bulk of it (he's too lazy to come up to Edmonton). Next up: Lost & Found. Possibly a new video too. Depends on how much it rains this week. I find rainy weather to be the perfect muse. I should really move to Vancouver.

I also finished digitising most of our old band tapes, dating back to 1991. That era consisted of me, Chris and Glen Mikesh performing as W5, then Beyond Belief. All we had back then for recording was a 4 track Fostex cassette recorder, some brutal mics and some really old keyboards, most of which don't even work anymore. Summers used to be all about hanging out in Wainwright, writing and recording music, working taxi or the farm, cutting laps, creating whirlpools in the backyard pool, camping, trips to the Big City, dodging cops, canoeing, partying at Kelly's highway club, etc. Now That Was Fun!

Caffeine Sunday recording update, photo sneak peek

It's been a little while since I've been able to post. I just started a new job, so between wrapping things up at my old work (and photographing the Champ Car Grand Prix of Edmonton), getting started at the new place, and being computerless while we swamped and reorganized our basement, I haven't been able to post anything for a while. Exciting times, but now things may settle down just a tad (I say as I work on three hours' sleep, thanks to our two-month-old).

I have had some time (so has Ryan) to continue working on new material for the new Caffeine Sunday album. We're currently working on one of Ryan's rockier tracks called Lost and Found.

We also had a photo shoot, which you'll see more from once the album is finished and we start getting ready to release it. But a hint about the visual theme this time around - we're drawing on our rural Alberta roots - a part of Canadian society that has been steadily eroding away since its heyday in the '50s and '60s. Call it "rural decay". I'll write about that in more detail in the weeks ahead.
